Hannibal | A Macabre Miracle
(SPOILERS: Hannibal (2013) & all 5 films and 4 novels in the Hannibal Lecter franchise)
This video will serve as a complete analysis of Bryan Fuller's 2013 television series Hannibal, beginning with a review of each of the five film adaptations of the four novels that feature Hannibal Lecter, followed by a breakdown of all three seasons, and ending with a conclusion where I outline the absolute sh*t show that was the conception of the source material, thus giving deeper context as to what the show was up against when it set out to translate it to the screen. Let's dig in...

Brian Cox was good in early film. Actor Claus Bang could easily beat new Hannibal. He's in a great series "Dracula" on Netflix. Its told from Jonathan Harker and a Nun''s point of view.

The show was literally just showcasing that smug smile on that one Mexican and the ugly mug of that one guy who did great on far cry 3. Saul looks vastly older than BB and that’s not good for prequels. Show was lazy and a hangover party for BB fans. Nothing in that show was relatable. And Mike was cool for when he was on but too many unrealistic fantasies going on that makes the show more depressing and boring than anything else.

A truly fascinating analysis. It's odd... despite being a fan of Pacino, this was one of his films that I never saw. As to the apparent incoherence of the narrative, I would like to make an observation. First of all, as pointed out by another comment, given the climate of indulgence that is endemic to Hollywood, drugs very well could have been a factor. But there is something else that I want to bring up. William Friedkin has always been problematic, as a director. What I mean is that while he had a career as a director, I have sometimes gotten the impression that he was less interested in the craft of film making, than he was in film as a method for exploring certain themes that he was intrigued by. Building on this, and again with a nod to other comments posted here, I think that "Cruising" should not be categorized as a crime thriller/murder mystery. I really think that it's really just a variation on "The Exorcist" theme. Not necessarily that there was a demon (as such) that was doing the killing. But at the very least, the idea of evil as an abstract, but also very real, force. Which seeks out and uses human beings as it's vessel.

It's such a shame Alex Kurtzman didn't just dick up Star Trek but Hanibal as well. Would've been interesting to see the full show as originally envisioned with Clarese coming u to the forefront of the show in later seasons. They held off as the trued to get rights but noooo Alex had to make his ass show that he was so big on doing. What I don't get is that he even seemed so passionate about getting ths show done, which was then going to be compared with Hanibal but yet the shiw comes across like no passion or good ideas ever existed. I hate Alex so much. His shows forgot about lore and canon yet make a bland mess that is insulting to any fan of the ip.

I finally watched this movie last night. I’ve been wanting to watch it since it came out but I had children and there’s dozens of flicks I’ve been wanting to watch but just haven’t gotten to. After years of folks telling me I have to watch it I took a big ole bong rip and watched it. I couldn’t agree more with what this guys says. The first half was great! Minus the guy losing limbs because his past self was getting mutliated. I chalked it up to the part I have to just let my brain not work logically. But then the whole TK and the little kid becoming some supervillain came about and it lost me. I feel this movie should have been waaaaay better but instead it’s a movie that in my opinion was just sloppy and got too ambitious when it didn’t need to be. I thought it was just me being super high and overthinking shit. But I’m glad to see it wasn’t just me. I couldn’t agree more with this video.

I would argue ur views on the story of walt being based off how far can walter be deeply consumed by his immorality but rather about his ideological identity of egoism and how it can lead the the downfall of a person. This is why i would disagree about ur opinion on season 5 of breaking bad being “unnecessary” to the story as we would be left with this immense gap of information on wether walt will eventually lead to his downfall, due to his egotistical obsession. We can clearly see this throughout the final season, where he loses practically everything he loved, including his ego. And this is why I believe Felina portrays a perfect ending to wrap up Walter’s story as he finally accepts that there is no middle ground between being a loving husband and father and being a criminal. In the scene where walt finally sees skylar one last time he admits that he did it for himself. He doesn’t really express any sort of remorse or sympathy towards his family but rather him basically saying that “this is who i am and there’s nothing I can do about it anymore”. Even though we know walt can’t change his choices due to the consequences of his decisions, we can see a hint of redemption in the finale. He ties up loose ends by getting revenge on jack and his crew, giving his money to his family and finally helping jesse one last time. The final scene of the show, we see walt in the meth lab admiringly pleased with the way he lived his life within these past 2 years, this shows us that ultimately his decision of becoming a criminal was a fortunate error.

In the books, when Tyrion marries Sansa, they actually get in to bed together and Tyrion plans to sleep with her. He then sees her looking at his naked body and his "peepee" in disgust and changes his mind lol. And Drogo never forces Dany on their wedding night. He is really sweet to her and totally seduces her! Just some fun facts from the books I'd thought I'd share!

I think you completely misunderstood Abby as a character, as well as the themes the game is going for, that ending is supposed to break that cycle of violence and develop the themes of forgiveness more, which empathy and forgiveness is what I believe the main point of the game is. It’s letting go. If Ellie killed Abby, what’s stopping lev from later killing Ellie, and then Dina or maybe even an older jj from killing Ellie. The whole point is that it’s a cycle that would’ve kept on going, and for that I think the ending makes complete sense for the story. I think your “strong arguements” are more opinionated than you think, and that’s okay. My argument I just made is opinionated, but that’s because I was listening, understanding and feeling what the creators were trying to accomplish, and I think the game is very interesting and well made. Also, just a tid bit, I think switching back and forth between Ellie and Abby wouldn’t have helped the pacing in any way. There’s already so much bouncing around with flashbacks and such, making more bouncing around even more dreadful from a pacing perspective, and I also think it would take away from the individual journeys both characters are going on. The game asks you to sit with the character of Abby, and I think staying with her helps in getting the player to slowly become wrapped in her journey and learning to empathize. Also, the wlfs aren’t her family or anything, they’re a militia group that was sort of an escape for Abby and essential in fulfilling her hatred and violent persona, they didn’t love her and they weren’t good for her, but when she learns to “look for the light” again, she realizes what is and isn’t important, and what is important is protecting “your people” that’s why she says to lev “you’re my people”

I live the Hannibal Saga but, whenever he gets a happy ending it just doesn't sit right, it doesn't feel right. End of the Hannibal series, the end of the Hannibal book, I did not like them they never seem to fit his character. I think it's because in the book he sees himself as above everyone, and if he ends with a partner that makes that person kind of his equal.

S2 Mason imo was intended to clash tonally with the show, specifically as a foil to Hannibal. Like many other characters, mason was fueled by an other worldly capacity for cruelty and violence. Mason, however, was different from Hannibal because he had little control or insight into his behavior. A psychotic nepo baby who could not be his own man in Hannibals eyes, always trailing after his father’s achievements in violence. He saw Mason as lesser than even the average person, who he already saw himself as superior to. Even Mason’s conception of god and Christianity was seen as inherently selfish, less divine than the spiritual connection Hannibal had to his god. Mason’s crass, petty, and openly sadistic character portrayal served to show how even in this surreal world, Hannibal’s violence was elevated and elegant, compared to Mason’s base animal cruelty.
